CME INFORMATION

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Medical oncologists and other allied healthcare professionals.

GLOBAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Critically evaluate data from the pivotal clinical trials integrating novel molecular therapeutics into the treatment of various solid tumors, and communicate the scientific and patient-level advantages of selective cellular targeting.
  • Describe the unique research and development challenges associated with identification of effective dosing, scheduling and duration of biologic and small-molecule anti-tumor agents, and explain how investigators have modified clinical trial endpoints to address these issues.
  • Evaluate the safety and tolerability of novel targeted compounds, and identify evidence-based strategies to manage side effects.
  • Review the historical and evolving role of combination treatment strategies in the management of cancer, exploring the biologic rationale for concomitant versus sequential integration of cytotoxic-novel and novel-novel dual tumor targeting.
  • Identify several distinct molecular pathways that support the growth, development, survival or invasive action of neoplastic cells, and describe the investigational agents that have demonstrated early anti-cancer activity through these mechanisms.
  • Discuss the integral role of clinical trial participation in maximizing cancer treatment advances, and counsel appropriately selected patients on the relevance and availability of ongoing research studies.
